KEARNEY, Neb. — Consider McCook’s three senior tennis leaders are now 75-1 this season and undefeated against everyone except Class A Kearney.

No wonder the Bison aren’t just focused on getting their varsity girls ready for Class B state in less than two weeks.

They are thinking Class B No. 1 seeds with a panth to potential Bison state titles, baby!

That’s how coach Matt Wiemers views No. 1 doubles Izzy Clause/Roslyn Wiemers (39-1 record) and No. 2 singles Brooklynn Gillen (36-0) following another undefeated run through Thursday’s Kearney Catholic Invitational.

“A good day on the courts once again. Brooklynn remains unbeaten picking up five wins and making a case for the one seed at state,” coach Wiemers observed. “Izzy and Roslyn picked five wins with two big wins against GICC and Hastings. Those wins only better solidifies their postion as the one seed as well.”

The Bison only dropped two of 20 matches while totaling 60 points for third among 12 invite teams.

Class B power Grand Island Central Catholic won with 67 points, but the Bison won their lone two matches against Crusaders.

Roslyn Wiemers and Clause scored an especially exciting 9-8 (7-4) victory over GICC.

Junior No. 1 singles Abby Scheider reached 30 wins this season (30-6) thanks to a 4-1 performance.

Junior Elizabeth McConville and sophomore Cassidy Rodgers also finished 4-1 while now 29-5 overall.

“Elizabeth and Cassidy didn’t have their best day, but still won four out of five matches,” the coach concluded.

The Bison two more home duals on Thursday before going into state tournament week.

They’ll face Adams Central at 2 p.m. and then some tough Hastings Tigers around 4 p.m. on those McCook High tennis courts.
