McCook Police to hold shooter drill

Tuesday, April 8, 2025

McCOOK, Neb. –  On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the McCook Police Department will be conducting an active event drill at McCook Senior High School. There will be a heavy presence of law enforcement and EMS at the school. This is only a drill and has been designed to provide valuable feedback to the department and those agencies participating. The school has sent out a robocall alerting students’ parents that this drill will commence on Wednesday.

There are forms to opt out of the drill in the school office for those students who may be affected by the drill. The scenario will involve actors to simulate a sense of realism. There will be a safety team employed to monitor the event, and there are check stops in place in case of an emergency. The goal of the exercise is to be as prepared as we can in the event of an actual emergency. The exercise will be evaluated as a whole, and the lessons learned can be developed into updates for protocol and procedure.

The McCook Police Department would like to thank the McCook Public Schools, the McCook Fire Department, the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of McCook for helping to make this event a success.
