Tyler Trigg of the Goodland National Weather Service speaks at a storm spotters’ training session, comparing weather watches and weather warnings to soup — a watch means all the ingredients are ready, but a warning means the soup storm is about to be served up. Trigg and fellow NWS employee Jesse Lundquist helped train about a dozen storm spotters at the Heritage Senior Center last Wednesday. This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Nebraska and Iowa, with emphasis on severe thunderstorms Monday, weather warnings today, tornadoes Wednesday with a statewide drill at 10 a.m., family preparedness on Thursday and flash floods on Friday.
