Weimer clinches MJH spelling bee contest

McCOOK, Neb. — With the correct spelling of “clerisy” (a distinct class of learned or literary people), Alice Weimer won the McCook Junior High Spelling Bee.

Weimer capped off her win in the fifth round of the spelling bee on Feb. 24. The seventh grader will now advance to the regional Omaha Sports Commission Spelling Bee. The 2023 Omaha Sports Commission Spelling Bee will take place on the campus of the University of Nebraska Omaha on March 18, 2023. The champion of the Omaha Sports Commission Spelling Bee then advances to the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee at Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, over Memorial Day weekend.

The entire school was in attendance at the spelling bee and cheered on participants.
