TRENTON, Neb. — Allan Dean Powell was born on Aug. 2, 1943, in Decatur County, Kan., to James Monroe and Irene Faye (Jolly) Powell. He attended school in Decatur County and graduated from Norcatur High School with the Class of 1961.

Allan was inducted into the United States Army on Dec. 13, 1961. He served for two years as a heavy weapons infantryman and was honorably discharged on Dec. 12, 1963. Allan married Judy Thomas and to this union three children were born: Michelle, Janelle, and Michael. On July 20, 1991, Allan was united in marriage to Patricia North in McCook, Neb., and a son, Tanner, would soon join the family as well as Allan’s bonus children, Richard, Danielle, and Kurt.

Allan spent most of his life farming and ranching on his families’ land and prior to retirement, he worked at Frenchman Valley Coop. Allan made a home in McCook for most of his life and enjoyed his retirement years in Casa Grande, Ariz. He and Patty recently moved back to Trenton to be closer to family.

Allan was an active member of the American Legion. Other memberships included the Eagles, the Elks, and the Prairie Statesman Barbershop Chorus. Allan loved to be around people and his many hobbies allowed him to do just that. He enjoyed pool leagues, team penning, fishing, trap shooting, dancing, and golfing.

Allan was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2022, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Neb. He was 79 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his father and mother; a brother, Jimmy Powell; and a brother-in-law, Merwin Grafton.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Powell of Trenton; children, Michelle (Shawn) Malleck of Indianola, Neb., Janelle (Toby) Jury of Kearney, Neb., Michael (Tammy) Powell of McCook and Tanner (Anna) Powell of Indianola; stepchildren, Richard (Amber) Wiese of Coolidge, Ariz., Danielle (Nick) Patterson of North Platte, Neb., and Kurt (Sara) Wiese of Johnstown, Colo.; grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, and Candance Malleck, Trace, Zachary, and Emily Jury, Tara (David) Peterman, Ryan Powell, Spencer Powell, and Harlow Powell; step-grandchildren, Jada, Tammy, Jaymie, Baily, Lilyana, and Sabrina Wiese, and Sabian and Rory Gragg; great-grandchildren, Kali, Brailyn, Ryker, Brexley, and Boosier; sister, Coleen (LaVerne) Rippe; sister-in-law, Virginia Grafton; brother-in-law, Jim (Pam) North; as well as nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Cremation was chosen and memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., on Friday morning, Aug. 12, 2022, at the McCook Christian Church with Pastor Kyle Dellevoet officiating. Burial will follow services in the Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors.
