HOLDREGE, Neb. — The funeral service for Betty J. Wright will be on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with Betty’s son-in-law, Pastor Steve Breazier, officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Neb.

Betty Joan Wright, 88 years of age, of McCook, Neb., passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Fairacres Manor in Greeley, Colo.  Betty was born on April 24, 1934, in Cody, Wyo., the youngest of eight children born to Bruce and Grace (Beam) Luke. She received her primary education in Cody, until her family moved to Oxford, where she attended Mascot High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. 

In 1954, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Hawkins, and this union was blessed with three children: Steve, Christine, and Julie. The family made their home in McCook, where Betty focused on raising the children. When the kids were school-aged, Betty began waitressing at various establishments.

Betty was a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She loved western music, dancing, singing, reading, and cooking. But most of all, she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of the First Christ Church in McCook.

Besides her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by her siblings: four brothers, Kenneth, Donald “Dean,” Stanley and Marvin; and three sisters, Marylin, Lucille and Evelyn.

Betty leaves to celebrate her life her son, Steve Hawkins of Greeley; two daughters, Christine Breazier and her husband, Steve of Table Rock, Neb., and Julie Hawkins of McCook; two grandchildren, Aleigha Colby and husband, Jon of Thompson Falls, Mont., and Erin Harbeck and husband, Matthew of Glenwood, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 5-8 p.m., at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6- 7:30 p.m.  

A memorial has been established in Betty’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family.
