Champion jumper leads five S.V. state qualifiers
OXFORD, Neb. — Sophomore Ann Bose jumped a career-best 5’5” for the C-8 district title while four other Southern Valley Eagles qualified for state Thursday afternoon.
Bose won the high jump while two-time state medalist Brianna Russell cleared her season-best 5’3” for second place on Thursday.
Both earned spots at Omaha Burke Stadium where Class C state events begin Friday morning.
Senior Cierra Dringmann will give S.V. a trio of state athletes since her 8”6 placed second at the district. Dringman finished second behind only South Loup’s Reagan Cool, who cleared 10’.
Southern Valley’s boys will also be represented at state Friday through Saturday night next week.
Senior Trevor Brown placed second in the 110-meter hurdles when he ran a career-best 16.5 seconds. He wasn’t far behind C-8 champ Jace Bombeck from Gibbon with his time of 15.89.
Junior Mitchel Wilson acheived the same feat, finishing his fastest 300-hurdles ever in 44.26 and took second behind Gibbon’s Braden Miller (44.06).
Overall, Southern Valley’s boys totaled just 23.5 points while the girls scored 57 four foruth among 10 teams.
A pair of S.V. girls relays placed third with 400-quartet featuring senior Elizabeth Meyers, freshman Brecklyn Hammond, Russell and senior Krista Best finishing in 55.12 seconds.
The 1600-relay also placed third (4:49.86) with Bose, freshman Tayley Becker, seniors Lucrecia Noel and Dringman. Hammond also ran a 300-hurdles (17.6) but placed fourth.
