Sailors take first over three tough area teams at Hitchcock
TRENTON, Neb. — Class D powerhouse Sutherland was able to outwrestle three talented area wrestling teams in Thursday’s Hitchcock County Quadrangular.
Chase County took second while Cambridge was third and the Falcons placed fourth.

Chase County 42,
Hitchcock 30
The Falcons didn’t enter a full lineup and actually most matches on their home mats.
Blake Devitt scored a 44-second pin at 113 with six-point wins also from Nathan Kollmorgen (145), Tanner O’Brien (160), Kolyn Gaston (170) and Keegan Shuler (195).
However, the Longhorns delivered two decisive wins. Class C top-five ranked Jarret Peterson pinned Taylor Hubl in 1:02 of their heavyweight match.
Westyn Mendenhall was a 2:59 winner over Hitchcock’s Tanner McClain.
Chase County 40,
Cambridge 33
Mendenhall delivered a 1:34 pin and Brice Vitosch scored his 12-1 major decision over Gabe Huntley at 160.
Dierks Sayer (126), Hunter Perks (145) and Wyatt Ervin (170) all pinned opponents during the first period for Cambridge.

Blake Devitt’s 2:29 pin and a 9-1 major decision win for Koyln Gaston over 170-pound Sailor Aydan Kaps were Hitchcock County highlights.

Besides forfeits, Sayer scored another big win when he pinned at 132 pounds in 3:45.
Adam Corbett was able to conquer Kollmorgen 10 seconds into their 145-pound match.
The Trojans had just enough to offset Falcon pins from O’Brien (2:26 at 160), Gaston (3:47 at 170) and Hubl at heavyweight (1:55) over talented Trojans.

Chase County 16
The Sailors were able to dominate Thursday’s decisive dual.
Chase County did score two memorable wins.
Cayden White pinned Caidan Gaona from Sutherland with six seconds remaining in their first period.
Thomas Reeves stepped up to earn a 13-1 win over Cole Kerner at 182 which gave the Longhorns major decision points.
Sutherland ruled most other matches to prove the high state ranking.
Cambridge and Hitchcock County are both wrestling again at the RPAC championship meet today in Alma.
