McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High became Bartley-Indianola West as Southwest fans roared for their Roughrider volleyball team on Saturday.

Even a 93-year-old great grandmother arrived to cheer on her favorite setter.

Coach Kim Barnett’s team did not disappoint the following at this Bison Volleyball Invitational.

They swept the Gering Bulldogs, took down defending champ McCook in three sets and then aimed for a third straight win over a Class B foe.

Class D Southwest took several early leads, but the powerful Alliance Bulldogs eventually scored a 25-22, 25-16 finals victory.

The ’Riders (9-3 record) gained confidence and some knowledge on what will help them conquer this season’s even bigger goals.

“I think by the final match, our girls were a bit fatigued,” Barnett said. “We need to work on our mental toughness to push through the fatigue and get the job done. As the season progresses, it is only going to get tougher.”

“We need to get tougher too,” she added.
