Valuations up, tax levy down for MPS
McCOOK, Neb. — The property tax levy for the McCook Public School District for next year will drop by a little over half a cent. Due to higher property valuations, the school district will still garner more funds than the prior year.
A public hearing for comments/suggestions on the 2021-22 MPS budget will open the regular McCook Board of Education meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the junior high conference room.
The 2021-22 budget includes the proposed tax levy, $1.067924, down by 0.06%, from the current levy of $1.118834. The property tax request will collect a total of $8.9 million in 2021-22, up from $8.67 million in 2020-21.
The general fund will get $8.03 million from that, with the rest going to: Bond fund, K-12, $414,141, the same amount as last year and Special building fund, $454,545, up from $434,343 last year.
The total operating budget for next year is $25.8 million, a 13.05% increase from $22.89 million in 2021-21.
After the public hearing, the board will convene in regular session.
The board will be asked to approve the budgets for all funds in 2021-22; the 2021-22 tax request and to accept the $2,300 donation from the MPS Senior Parents, Class of 2021, for a sidewalk project at Hoehner Park.
