McCook athletes win four Cornhusker golds; Curtis two

LINCOLN, Neb. — McCook's Caden Edwards captured two powerlifting gold medals while James Foster and Caleb Shaw each won one during the Cornhusker State Games which concluded Sunday.

Edwards earned USA Powerlifting golds in the Men's Raw Teen Benchpress as well as Men's Raw Teen Push Pull-All.

Foster cleared enough height to become Men's age 45 to 49 state high jump champion.

Shaw won the Stroke Play Youth golf title where siblings Corbin Shaw (second) and Karragan Shaw (third) completed a family sweep of those top three state places.

McCook High top tennis player Isaac Hinze nearly won the Male Singles Junior championship for age 18 and under. Hinze placed second overall for the silver medal. More details will appear in Tuesday's Gazette.

Meanwhile, seasoned State Games athlete Robert Wortman won two Cornhusker state titles.

Portman soared to first in the high jump among men 70 to 74 years old. He also won the men's triple jump title for that same age division.

Wortman showed his versatility and power while also claiming two silver medals. He placed second for both discus and shot put throwers in that 70-74 age group.

Indianola can boast a state champion because Ben Rogallala won the Olympic Fencing Epee championship for youth age 12 and under.

Danielle Holcomb represented Arapahoe where she placed second in the Martial Arts-Taekwondo for age 10-11 beginners and low intermediate.
