Melons squash McCook FCB Juniors' state quest

GOTHENBURG, Neb. — Gothenburg's Eathan Olson pitched a one-hitter and the Melons plated eight unearned runs during their 9-0 win over McCook First Central Bank Juniors Sunday afternoon.

McCook's second B-6 area tournament defeat ends the Juniors' season at 7-16.

Payton Dellevoet singled for the FCB team's lone hit. They had edged Gothenburg, 7-6, during the B-6 opening round on Friday but then allowed nine late runs in Saturday's 16-7 defeat to Holdrege.

No. 2-seed Gothenburg meets No. 3 Holdrege tonight with the winner needing two victories over No. 1 Broken Bow on Tuesday to take the B-6 title. The champ advances into state tournament play at Waverly starting this weekend.
