ROCKPORT, Texas — Donald Lenn Shepherd (Lenny), died peacefully in his home in Rockport on July 3, 2021. 

Lenny was born Sept. 26, 1959, and raised in McCook, Neb. He graduated from McCook High School in 1978 and attended Kearney State College, earning a bachelor of science in business in 1981. While living in McCook, he worked construction alongside his father and best friend at Don Shepherd Construction.  When his dad retired, Lenny moved to Lincoln, Neb.  He worked in property management before returning to McCook and forming a one-man carpentry/construction business called Shepherd Construction.

Lenny was a faithful son and brother who assisted in caring for his father until his death in early 2000.  In 2001 he relocated his business to Rockport, Texas where in his own words he could “live on island time.”

Lenny was a kindhearted, fun-loving person who never met a stranger. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and these remained his lifetime passions.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hiram and Bertha Clapp, Lenny and Cecilia Shepherd; his parents, Patricia Clapp Shepherd and Donald D. Shepherd.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Shepherd and sister- in-law, Alice Hannon, Kansas City, Mo.; his Aunt and Uncle Cornell and Brenda Clapp, St. Augustine, Fla.; his aunt, Deila Kalinski, Tacoma, Wash.; his godmother, MaryJo Weigand, Murrieta, Calif.; numerous cousins, dear friends and neighbors in Rockport.

Lenny’s ashes will be interred at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in McCook, Neb.  Memorial service to be announced at a later time.
