Cambridge golfers swing to first at M.V. Invite

CURTIS, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojans won a close Medicine Valley Golf Touranment title race at Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course on Tuesday.

Cambridge totaled 411 which finished four strokes lower than those contending Tigers’ 415. Hitchcock County’s 442, 469 from Hi-Line and host Med Valley’s 455 completed team scores.

Arapahoe’s Haiden Van Houtan won an even tighter individual battle for first place. He shot 98 but edged DC-S junior Nolan Burrell, who finished 18 holes with that same score.

Tiger teammate Lane Brown, Hitchcock Falcon Trevor Kefalas and Cambridge leader Ethan Sides each fired a round of 99.

Trojans Caleb Shaner (sixth, 101) and Thatcher Patterson (seventh, 102) delivered the next best scores. Cort Fiene’s 109 capped the Cambridge champion team total.

Grant Taylor gave Arapahoe a second Top 10 medalist (eigth, 102) and DC-S senior Cheve Lutz took 10th (105).

The remaining top 15 featured Maywood-Hayes Center’s Weston Morrow (11th, 105), Trojan Brodie Mitchell (13th, 110), M-HC No. 2 golfer Ory Johnson (14th, 111) and Hitchcock County’s Ashton Johnson (15th, 111).

Tiger junior Mark Nelms, who won the Hitchcock County Invite at Heritage Hills last week with 94, just missed Tuesday’s medal group while firing 113.

Colton Sedlacek’s 115 led the Southwest Roughriders.

Host Med Valley’s low score was 126 from Kellen Cole and Colton Shelton at 131.
