MCC baseball men run into tough Trojans

COLBY, Kan. – The McCook Community College baseball team dropped an 11-3 game at Colby Community College Tuesday. The Trojans broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fifth inning and added to a 5-3 lead in the eighth inning with six runs.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Daniel Bannon (freshman, Sydney, Australia) led off the third inning with a single, he went to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a ground ball and came home on an RBI-groundout with sophomore Ricardo Hernandez (Ponce, Puerto Rico).

Persio Quezada, freshman (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) doubled in a run in the fourth to give MCC a 2-1 lead but Colby tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

MCC starter Alex Lozada (sophomore, San Juan, Puerto Rico) pitched into the fifth inning, allowing five hits and five arned runs. Quentin Warner (freshman, Elgin, Ill.) went 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Mitchell Driver (sophomore, Sydney, Australia) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.

Arjun Huerta, freshman (Willemstad, Curacao) doubled to lead off the eighth-inning with MCC trailing 5-2. Hernandez singled him to third and Huerta scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kade Wroot (second-year sophomore, North Platte.

Tristan Browning (freshman, Haslet, Texas) and Blake Davidson (freshman, Calgary, Alberta) pitched the eighth allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks.

MCC falls to 22-18, Colby goes to 17-18.

The Indians are back at it at home Wednesday with a nine-inning makeup game against Southeast Community College starting at 2 p.m.

Southeast CC (19-10) leads the southern division of the Empire League (Region IX) with a 13-4 record. MCC is third in the South standings with a 13-9 league mark.
