CURTIS, Neb. -- Get your dog in dandy shape this spring at the NCTA Pet Spa Day on Saturday (April 10).

Veterinary Technicians will bath dogs, trim toenails and clean ears at the NCTA Vet Tech Clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grooming occurs at the Veterinary Teaching Clinic of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.

“People from the Curtis community or area can bring in their dogs to get them bathed, plus nails trimmed, and their ears cleaned” said Hannah Murray, a freshman from North Bend.

The project is hosted by the Student Technicians of Veterinary Medicine Association, said Murray, STVMA president.

“It is a community service, a fundraiser for the Vet Tech Program and STVMA Club, plus provides us the opportunity to apply our skills.”

Dogs must have a current rabies vaccination, administered at least a month in advance.

“This is my first time partaking in the Student Technicians of Veterinary Medicine Association spa day,” said Ashyln Mohling, STVMA treasurer and a freshman from Glenvil.

The traditional fall event was shifted to April due to COVID restrictions last semester.

“When the new officer group first got together we decided that we wanted to hold a spa day in the spring because is truly is a great event for both the students and the dogs that are brought in from the community,” Mohling said.

Use of facial masks and social distancing is requested.

Donations are suggested at $5 per dog. The club has a goal of raising $750 for STVMA projects.

No acting veterinarian will be present to treat or address health conditions.
