MCC quartet captures all-Region volleyball honors

McCOOK, Neb. — Four McCook Community College volleyball players have been named to the All-Region IX south team, two of those were named to the all-tournament team and MCC had three players selected to the all-Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference team.

Sophomore Fernanda Canedo (Cochabamba, Boliva) was the only Lady Indian named to all three of the post-season teams.

The right-side hitter led MCC with 375 kills on the season (3.68 per set), along with 257 digs, 26 service aces, and 27 blocks. She finished the season with the fourth most kills in the nation among players from the 91 schools competing in Division 1. She will continue her volleyball career this fall in Olathe Kan. for MidAmerica Nazarene.

Emily Barr (Hershey), a sophomore outside hitter, was named to the all-region south team and the all-tournament team. Playing in 29 matches she had 148 kills on 414 attacks.

She led MCC with 32 service aces on the season, also compiling 82 digs, and 53 total blocks. She will play volleyball in the fall at William Penn University.

Sophomore outside hitters Kallie Cathcart (Holly, Colo.) and freshman Jordan Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) also were named to the all-region south team. Cathcart had 238 kills, 225 digs, 36 blocks, and 13 ace serves.

She has signed on to continue playing volleyball at Tabor College. Jerome tallied 179 kills, had 226 digs, 27 service aces and led MCC with 65 total blocks on the season.

MCC had three players named to the All-NCCAC team. In addition to Canedo, sophomore Mackenzie Anderson (Hyannis) and sophomore Heiata Tauota (Nantes, France) were selected to the team through a vote by the four NCCAC coaches.

Anderson, a right-side hitter, had 119 kills, 54 blocks, 14 aces and 37 digs.

Tauota led MCC with 456 assits from the setter position. She also had 45 kills, 14 aces and 13 blocks.

MCC finished the season 17-12 and was to co-champion of the NCCAC with a 5-1 record, tied with North Platte.
