Greta ‘June’ Kentopp Nothaus

Feb. 19, 1945 - March 14, 2021

WAUNETA, Neb. — Greta ‘June’ Kentopp Nothaus, the daughter of Walter Thomas and Violet Stella ‘Dell’ (Seitz) Blankenship, was born Feb. 19, 1945, in Benkelman, Neb., and passed away March 14, 2021, in Wauneta.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Nothaus of Palisade; children, Bill Kentopp of Mesa, Ariz., Barry Kentopp of Kansas City, Mo., and Angela (Bascue) Kentopp of Wichita, Kan.; stepdaughters, Michelle Paul of Strasburg, Colo., Korine Gorham of McKinney, Texas and Marni Linenberger of Victor, Colo. She leaves behind many grand and great-grandchildren.

June is also survived by siblings, Tom Blankenship of Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn Blankenship of Trenton, Neb., and Judy Clark of Benkelman. Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, Roberta ‘Bobbi’ Blankenship, Georgie Seybold, Ruby Terry and Timothy Blankenship.

June’s accomplishments through her life were many, from a business owner, as well as being the first female police officer in Oakley, Kan., and code enforcement officer/building inspector in Teller County, Colo. She was an avid runner for many years and regularly competed in races across Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. She also had a great talent and enjoyed designing, building and remodeling homes which began early in her life with her father, Walter.

A Family Celebration of her life to honor her wishes will be in Colorado in the mountains she loved, where she and husband, Mike, lived for many years.
