Broncos, Tigers trounce first RPAC West tourney foes

GIRLS

Wauneta-Palisade 59, Hitchcock County 35

The Broncos are now 12-4 thanks to five players scoring eight points or more against those rival Falcons.

Their barrage ranged from senior Haylee Sandman's 13 points/11 rebounds to freshman Peyton Cox's 12 points with 14 rebounds during this dominant triumph.

Sophomore Cali Cox (10 points), junior Alexa Sandman (nine) and freshman GraCee Goings (eight) all contributed to a balanced attack.

Goings and Alexa Sandman both buried a pair of three-point shots.

Haylee Sandman made her lone attempt from long distance.

No individual stats were obtained for the 1-13 Falcons.

DC-S 61, Maxwell 44

A 22-7 first quarter and senior Maggie Lutz's 20 points fueled the latest Tiger victory on Saturday.

Junior Ava Petersen shot 60 percent from beyond the arc for nine points.

Freshman Alyssa Schneider made seven of nine free throws en route to 12 points besides the guard's team-best 11 assists.

The Tigers (10-5 record) also featured senior Kaylin Brown's seven points. Lutz and junior Lillian Wiese each secured eight rebounds.

Maxwell's Tigers tumbled to 4-13 on the season.

The Wallace Wildcats beat host Paxton, 38-21, in Saturday's other girls tournament game.

BOYS

Dundy County-Stratton 80, Wauneta-Palisade 35

A barrage of 11 Tigers hit shots for the sharp Dundy County-Stratton boys on Saturday.

The 12-2 Tigers shot 59 percent from two-point range, 53 percent overall at 31 for 58.

Power post Keegan Krutsinger's 13 points led DC-S along with junior Mark Nelms' 12, senior Lincoln Waters' 10 and sophomore Corbin Horner with another 10.

Junior Nolan Burrell added nine points to follow his 22 during Thursday's comeback win at Cambridge. The Tigers erased a nine-point, fourth-quarter deficit against those Trojans.

Senior Serbando Diaz, sophomore Alex Englot and freshman Jackson Kerchal added six points each on Saturday.

Burrell blitzed the Broncos by hitting three of his four three-point attempts. Waters shot two for three.

Diaz and Kerchal also lassoed a team-best six rebounds apiece.

The Broncos slipped to 3-13 overall.

Maxwell 61, Maywood-Hayes Center 54

A talented 11-5 Maxwell team cooled the 11-5 M-HC boys. No other details were obtained.

Paxton 34, Hitchcock County 31

The host Paxton Tigers avenged one and two-point losses earlier this season to Hitchcock County (9-4 record).

A 17-7 second quarter helped Paxton (10-5) build the 23-12 halftime advantage. Senior Dane Storer delivered 18 points for coach Jody Rhoades' team.
