McCOOK, Neb. — Loveland, Colo. native McKenna Crews signed her letter of intent Friday afternoon to play volleyball later this fall at McCook Community College.

“I chose MCC because it felt like home as soon as I walked in. I love the team and coaching staff, and they work hard,” she said. “McCook is a second hometown for me, and I can’t wait to play here.”

She said her family spends a lot of time in the Culbertson area for summers and during hunting season. In addition to signing her letter of intent this weekend, McKenna plans to spend the rest of the weekend filling her Nebraska doe permit.

MCC coach Hayley Kobza said McKenna brings a lot to the libero position and while a couple current freshmen have played well as defensive specialists during the extensive preseason, the coach said she has no doubt Makenna will come in and give everybody a run.“I do like to have competition within our team because we end up being better because everyone is pushing each other,” she said.

Crews is a 5-6 libero/defensive specialist from Thompson Valley High School and is a four-year letter winner in volleyball as well as competing in the throwing events in track and field.

When asked the secret to a wicked serve she said “I guess moving lots of hay bales starting when I was younger.”

While Colorado High School delayed volleyball in the fall, she is playing club volleyball for Rocky Select Elite and hopes to play her senior season this spring, but will not be able to compete in track if both seasons are allowed.
