LINCOLN, Neb. — McCook senior Mason Michaelis lost only four games in four Class B state tournament wins capped with Friday's 6-1, 6-1 sweep of No. 2 singles foe Connor Barrett from Omaha Skutt Catholic.

Michaelis finished 37-1 for the season while giving Barrett only his fifth defeat compared to 40 victories.

His title topped a two-day event where McCook scored 25 points to place No. 5 among all Class B teams.

Mount Michael Benedictine won the team title (50.125 points) over Omaha Skutt (49), Nebraska City (30) and Grand Island Central Catholic (27.25). There were 25 Class B teams who competed at Lincoln's Woods Tennis Center Thursday and Friday.

McCook earned another top three finish when No. 2 doubles Joel Miller and Nathaniel Miller won the consolation final 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 over GICC's Koby Bales and Jonathan Schardt. They were seeded fourth while the Millers (36-4 final record) were third entering state.

Junior Isaac Hinze placed sixth at No. 1 singles while going 37-2. McCook's No. 1 doubles of sophomore Evan Humphrey and freshman Lincoln Michaelis (27-10) did not place.
