Class B No. 2 Hastings holds off Bison rally
McCOOK, Neb. — McCook's tying run was in the on-deck circle when Class B No. 2 Hastings finally finished a 5-2 varsity softball victory Tuesday evening at McCook's Jaycees Complex.
The Bison (7-11 record) rallied from 5-0 down after sophomore Abbie Johnson worked a walk from pitcher Faith Molina.
Hastings (14-1) promptly called on a new hurler and junior Graci Nelson promptly ripped that next offering into left field.
Jada Berry singled home one run before Emma Kehler's sizzling double to the left-field fence brought McCook within 5-2 through five innings.
However, the Tigers thew a 1-2-3 sixth frame. Nelson reached on a two-out throwing error during the seventh only to see Hastings retired that last Bison batter.
Kehler pitched a complete game where she worked around 10 Tiger hits. She only walked one batter in seven innings and struck out.
