D-1 No. 3 Wolves down Falcons to reach 11-0

HAYES CENTER, Neb. Senior Jaycee Widener jolted Hitchcock County with a season-high 22 kills and five ace serves in unbeaten Maywood-Hayes Center's 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 volleyball victory Tuesday evening.

The Wolves (11-0 record) roared out of Saturday's Hitchcock tournament championship. Sophomore Ashlin Broz and Olivia Hansen served two more aces each as Hansen totaled a team-best 13 service points.

Setter Kiley Hejtmanek delivered 16 assists for coach Kory Rohde's Class D-1 No. 3-ranked team (Journal Star).

"We played a little sloppy tonight and made some mistakes that we normally do not make," Rohde said. "But we made enough plays to win and I'm happy for that ...11-0 is pretty good."

Junior Riley Bortner sizzled six kills and four ace serves past the Wolves while leading the 4-8 Falcons.

Senior Faith Wagner slammed four more kills and junior Lindsey Rippen rose to make five ace blocks.

Bortner cleaned the home court with 18 digs.
