ELWOOD, Neb. -- June Marie Conley-Brakhahn, age 84, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska.  She was born in her grandma’s house in Coburg, Iowa on June 21, 1936, the eldest daughter of Elsie Marie Conley.

June went to many small country schools in Iowa, Colorado, and Nebraska. After her family moved to Hendley, Nebraska where she attended school, she later attended Beaver City High School. June chose to be baptized at Hendley Methodist Church, and she was later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hendley.

At the age of sixteen, June went to work for the Brakhahn family. She helped Frida Brakhahn with various tasks like cooking, cleaning, tending to small children, and working on the farm. While working on the farm, she met and fell in love with Clarence Brakhahn.

On February 13, 1955, Clarence and June were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Hendley. To this union two children were born: Steven Lee and Thersa Lynn. They made their home on the Brakhahn homestead northwest of Hendley.

Clarence and June operated the Derby Café in Arapahoe from 1976 to 1980, where she enjoyed visiting with many customers and the challenge of business ownership. June retired from farming and moved to Arapahoe in 1993. She worked part-time for Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a member for many years. June enjoyed living close to her granddaughters, Ashley and Stephanie, and attending concerts, plays, and other school events.

In 2016, June was thrilled to become a great grandmother to Anastasia Marie. She loved watching Anastasia dance and play. Adrian William followed in 2020, and June loved watching him smile and stare at his big sister.

June loved to read novels, a love shared by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved puzzles, crafts, sewing, and decorating her entire house. She loved to spend time with family, and she loved showing off her teddy bear collection to visitors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, and son Steven.

She leaves behind daughter Thersa & husband Bill Shearer of Arapahoe, Nebraska, granddaughters Ashley Marie & husband Alex Wyatt of Holdrege, Nebraska and Stephanie Shearer of Central City, Nebraska, and two great grandchildren, Anastasia Marie & Adrian William, both of Holdrege.
