McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook City Council unanimously approved a new subdivision Monday night at its regular meeting.

Eugene and Joan Koch of McCook purchased the lot off of Drive 716 at the Southeast Quarter of Section 24, Township 3 North, Range 30 West of the 6th P.M., in Red Willow County, Neb. The Kochs requested that the lot be divided into two lots, with a business on one of the lots and on the other, a residence. After a public hearing, the council approved the application.

The council also approved a subdivision agreement between the City of McCook and Eugene and Joan Koch as a condition to the creation of the Koch Subdivision. The agreement states that the city has the ability to annex the property if needed.

Also Monday night, the council approved a new city ordinance that allows food establishments to serve alcohol on sidewalk cafes. On a unanimous vote, the council suspended the three-reading rule and approved the ordinance on its second reading.

Under the ordinance, restaurants that would like to serve alcohol at a sidewalk cafe in front of their business, on city streets, can do so after filing an application with the city. The city permit would be $100 per year and restrictions in the ordinance includes space requirements for street access and wheelchair accessibility, hours of operation (City Council approval is needed for hours past 11 p.m.), City Council approval for live music and visually appealing barriers. Plans on how the businesses will address those requirements will be included in the application to the city.

After the regular meeting, the council convened in closed session for a strategy session regarding collective bargaining - the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 57.
