CULBERTSON, Neb. — Leland “Dean” Land, age 86, of Culbertson, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Neb.

Dean was born May 20, 1934, in Sutherland, Neb., to parents, Cecil H and Edith Viola (Wolverton) Land. He was one of six children. Dean attended school in Dickens, Neb., and Elsie, Neb., and then graduated from North Platte High School with the Class of 1953.

Following high school, Dean enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country until being honorably discharged in 1958.

Upon his return from the service, Dean married the love of his life, Vivian Kay Fries in Sterling, Colo. To this union three children were born.

Dean enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a past member of the Eagles Club and attended Trinity Methodist Church.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kay.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Vivian Land of Culbertson; son, Larry (Sheri) Land of Almena, Kan.; two daughters, Tami (Kevin) Black of Norton, Kan., and Lori (Jack) Smith of Culbertson; two brothers, Don (Jeanette) Land of Shawnee, Kan., and Gene Land of North Platte; two sisters, Sandy (Ed) Perrault and Cheryl (Joe) Fisher, all of North Platte; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating.

Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Culberson Cemetery.
