Tractor Relay still plans to roll

While two other slow trips across the state have been canceled, a slow trip by tractor is still on, as of now.

The ninth annual Tractor Relay Across Nebraska is set for June 6-13, is still on, provided news is good on the coronavirus front.

Earlier, both the annual Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska, and the Tour de Nebraska long-distance bicycle rides were postponed for a year.

"We're still planning on it," said Donelle Moormeier, coordinator of the event, told the Wauneta Breeze. "We're just going to kind of see. We've extended our registration" deadline, from May 1 to May 8.

The event, sponsored by the Nebraska Antique Farming Association, raises funds for the American Legion's Operation Comfort Warriors.

The event, which starts in Lamar and ends in Valentine, with overnight stops in Wauneta, Wallace, North Platte, Arnold, Brewster, Ainsworth Springview and Valentine, raises funds to provide veterans with items they cannot get through regular channels, such as toothbrushes to rehab equipment.

With the help of local Legion posts providing meals with free-will donations, the tractor relay has raised more than $40,000 over the last six years, Moormeier told the Breeze.
