BRADY, Neb. — Chase County was equally lethal from inside or outside the three-point arc while earning a C-2 subdistrict championship Thursday night.

The Longhorns hit eight three-pointers and eight other field goals, more than enough to fight off Gothenburg by a 50-40 final count.

Senior Kobe Clevenger’s 18 points powered the win as he scored nine in the first period alone.

Teammate Taylor Jablonski hit three triplesd before halftime en route to 13 points.

Bennett Bauerle added eight, Ryan Bernhardt six and Mason Nordhausen five points to win a second consecutive subdistrict title.

The Longhorns will take on Ashland-Greenwood to determine a state spot at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Minden High School.

Both the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos and Cambridge Trojans fell one win short from matching Chase’s repeat title.

The Broncos lost 60-53 against powerhouse Paxton which ended their season at 13-13.

Blake Brewster’s 27 points powered the Paxton victory.

Junior Braxton McKinney tallied 15 points, senior Ben Anderjaska 14 and senior Ty Duvel 10 for the Broncos.

They overcame a number of early-season injuries like McKinney breaking one bone in his hand, but just missed a chance to reach Lincoln again.

Cambridge nearly completed its own incredible comeback from a slow season start after making one fantastic deep football playoff run.

The Trojans pushed a strong Amherst team into overtime Thursday night before dropping a 54-48 decision.

Senior Paxton Ross scored 17 points, Zion Moyer nine, sophomore Dahlton Wood eight and senior Brandon Horwart another eight for the 11-12 Trojans.

Amherst improved its season record to 17-6 entering district finals.
