Eagles avenge RPAC finals loss to Tigers

Friday, February 14, 2020

OXFORD, Neb. — Southern Valley’s boys were ready for the rematch with Dundy County-Stratton and won 63-57 Thursday evening.

The Eagles (16-4 record) featured a super balanced attack with senior Jaden Quinn and junior Brody Yant both scoring 17 points.

Junior Clayton Berry sent another 13 points through the home nets while classmate Carter Bose added 11.

It was far better success than the RPAC championship game on Feb. 2, when DC-S scored a 40-38 victory at McCook Community College’s Graff Events Center.

The DC-S Tigers have gone 0-2 during a week which they started 17-2. They lost 60-45 to North Platte St. Pat’s at Benkelman Tuesday night.

On Thursday, Southern Valley broke an 11-11 tie and led 30-25 into halftime.

The Tigers stayed within 42-39 through three quarters, but allowed 21 points in that last period.

Senior Draden Best dropped in another three Eagle points and senior Beau Bailey tallied two.

A decisive factor was Southern Valley making 14 of 17 free throws for 82 percent.

Yant and Bose both hit five of six attempts while Berry finished three for four.

No individual DC-S Tiger stats were obtained before today’s deadline.

The Tigers are set to play at Medicine Valley tonight. Southern Valley hosts Fort Kearny Conference champ Axtell.
