Defendants appear in Red Willow County District Court

McCOOK, Neb. — Sentencings in Red Willow County District Court on Feb. 3 included:

— Bridget M. Matson, 34 of McCook, in CR 19-85, entered a plea of guilty/no contest to Count II, allowing a committed offender to have unauthorized communication/unlawful acts by a corrections employee, a Class IV felony, sentenced to 18 months probation. One count of sexual assault of an inmate/parolee, first degree, a Class IIA felony, was dismissed. Matson, an employee of the Nebraska Department of Corrections Work Ethic Camp in McCook, admitted that between August and September 2019 she used a fake name to create a pay account and purchased a cell phone (contraband) that she brought into a secure facility and used to receive phone calls from an inmate through the work camp/prison’s phone system.

— Brandy Carlson, 39, of Holbrook, in CR 19-62, entered a plea of no contest to Count 1, possession of a control substance, methamphetamine, a Class IV felony, sentenced to 90 days in jail and credited for three days. Counts of possession of controlled substance (clonazepam), a Class IV felony; and possession of marijuana (less than 1 ounce), drug paraphernalia and open container of alcohol, infractions, were dismissed.

— Jason Stephens, 40, of McCook, in CR 19-2, possession of a controlled substance (amended from possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver), methamphetamine, a Class IV felony, and no drug stamp, a Class IV felony, sentenced to 48 months probation on each, to be served concurrently. Two counts of possession of controlled substance (hydrocodone and clonazepam), each a Class IV felony; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia dismissed.

— Ryan Blake, 34, of McCook, in CR 18-67, Count 1, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) a Class IV felony, amended to attempted possession of a controlled substance, a Class I misdemeanor, sentenced to 90 days in jail; and driving under suspension, a Class III misdemeanor, sentenced to 30 days in jail, credited with 10 days, to be served concurrently with the 90-day sentence. Fined $100 on a one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

— Hunter J. Koetter, 20, of rural McCook, in CR 18-81, probation violation (arrested on July 13, 2019) after sentencing on March 3, 2019, for possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam), a Class IV felony; and possession of marijuana, more than 1 ounce, a Class III misdemeanor. Probation revoked and sentenced on Feb. 3 to one year with the Nebraska Department of Corrections on the possession of controlled substance (alprazolam) charge and 30 days in jail on the marijuana charge. Sentences to run concurrently. In CR-54,

entered a plea of no contest to Count 1, criminal attempt, a Class 2 felony; two counts of terrorist threats, a Class 3A felony; and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a Class ID felony. On criminal attempt and terrorist threats, sentenced to one year each, to be served concurrently. Sentenced to 3-5 years with the Department of Corrections on the firearm charge, to be served concurrently. All sentences are consecutive to sentences in CR 18-81.

— Jarrod Cappel, 36, of rural McCook, probation violation (in August 2018, in CR 18-15, entered a plea of guilty to Count 1, attempted possession of tetrahydrocannabinois, and to Counts 2 and 3, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, ordered to complete 24 months probation), sentenced on Feb. 3 to 60 days in jail. In CR 19-82, on Feb. 3, sentenced to 30 days in jail on one count of no proof of insurance; 90 days in jail on attempted possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), sentences to run concurrently, $100 fine on possession of drug paraphernalia. Sentences are consecutive to those in CR 18-15.
