Candidates filing for reelection

McCOOK, Neb. — Red Willow County Second District commissioner Steve Downer of rural Bartley said this morning he’s not filing to run again for the commissioner’s position he has held since 2020.

Twenty years will be plenty, Downer said at the commissioners’ weekly meeting this morning.

In the county clerk’s office on Friday, Jan. 31, Randy Dean of rural Indianola filed as a Republican for Downer’s District 2 seat.

Nonpartisan candidates’ filings thus far are:

— Jerry Calvin of McCook filed Jan. 15 as an incumbent for a position on the McCook City Council.

— Duane Teter of rural Bartley filed Jan. 31 for a position on the District 179/Southwest Public Schools board of education. Teter is an incumbent.

— Jason Kloepping, of rural Bartley, also filed for a position on the Southwest Public Schools board of education. Kloepping is a non-incumbent and filed Jan. 22.

— Teresa A. Thomas of McCook filed on Jan. 27 as an incumbent for a position on the McCook Public Schools board of education.

Incumbents have until Tuesday, Feb. 18 to file, and non-incumbents have until Monday, March 2.
