Longhorns, DC-S boys top tough foes on road
HERSHEY, Neb. — The Chase County Longhorns and Dundy County-Stratton Tigers were both great road warriors with big basketball wins last weekend.
On Saturday, the DC-S Tigers faced SPVA tourney champ Hershey and scored a 63-55 victory.
Junior forward Keegan Krutsinger powered to 20 game-high points with super support from classmate Michael Frederick (16 points) and junior Nolan Burrell (15).
Krutsinger didn’t miss a two-point shot, finishing eight for eight.
The Tigers (17-2 record) built a 34-22 halftime lead only to see Hershey (12-6) score 22 points in that third period to close within 47-44.
It was still a one-shot game at 58-55, but senior Cade Lutz made two late free throws to seal this victory.
Lutz scored a team-high 12 points during Friday’s 68-22 triumph over Southwest. More about that contest is included at left.
The Tigers made 53 percent of their two-point shots vs. Hershey.
Frederick snabbed 11 rebounds, Krutsinger nine and Lutz grabbed eight.
Lutz also blocked a shot.
On Friday, Chase County hit the road and avenged one of only three losses all season with its 67-53 beatdown of North Platte St. Patrick’s.
The Longhorns reached 14-3 while dealing those Irish a second defeat overall (15-2).
No individual stats were obtained.
A clear key was Chase County’s 44-point second half.
The Longhorns only led 23-20 at halftime before scoring 21 and 23 points in those last two periods.
Chase improved to 6-0 in “true” road games this season and will host the Cambridge Trojans on Saturday.
