Chase girls capture SPVA tourney championship

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Chase County girls finished their fantastic run to a South Platte Valley Association championship with their 51-37 win over Bridgeport Saturday night.

Senior Mallie McNair’s 23 points powered the Longhorns through this title game while handing Bridgeport only its third loss in 16 games this season.

Coach Randy Longoria’s girls are now 11-3 following the three-game sweep through this tourney.

Freshman Ruthie Loomis-Goltl led Bridgeport (13-3) by scoring 17 points but saw the other Bulldogs only tally 20.

Other Chase champion players were seniors Hannah Meeske, Ashley Burbak and Sophie Spady; juniors Richmond and Kor Weiss; sophmores Jerzee Milner, Morgan Peterson and Jordan Jablonski; freshmen Liz Reeves, Giselle Acuna and Bryn McNair.

Chase County reached the title game thanks to a thrilling comeback win over SPVA superpower North Platte St. Patrick’s on Saturday.

Chase stuns Irish

Alexis Richmond’s two dramatic shots helped Chase County edge North Platte St. Patrick’s in overtime, 55-53, Thursday night and end those Irish’s 10-year streak of reaching the SPVA girls tournament title game.

Richmond, a 5’10” junior made one layup at the end of regulation which forced OT.

She then swished a three-pointer as time experience and erased the Irish’s final 53-52 lead.

St. Patrick’s slipped to 10-5 this season.

Richmond tallied 10 points to join senior Mallie McNair’s 16 and Bryn McNair’s 15 in leading the Longhorn semifinal-winning attack.
