Wolves, S.V. Eagles deliver big wins

MAYWOOD, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center’s girls took a 22-1 lead en route to besting Bertrand, 55-31, Thursday night.

Senior Avery Johnson unleashed her season-best 29 points to follow 23 in the 13-2 Eagles’ previous victory.

Johnson shot 61 percent from the floor (11 for 18) while freshman Ashlin Broz buried 10 of 12 free throws.

Senoir Jaycee Lapp and Broz both added 12 points with senior Abbie Brott tossing in two.

Junior Jaycee Widener also delivered an awesome defensive effort, swiping 10 steals from the 7-6 Vikings.

Southern Valley has been on a roll and didn’t slow during its triumph over Arapahoe’s girls.

Senior Lauryn Samuelson made five of seven shots for 14 points and classmate Grace Hogeland put in 12 points.

Senior Krista Best (seven points), Janessa Kring (three), Kynlee Marquez (two), Mandy Schoen (two) and Kara Kredjl (one point) also hit shots besides playing strong defense.

Hope Koller’s nine points paced Arapahoe (2-12) and senior Terri Hilker totled seven with two each for Tracy Roskop and Emerson Swanson.
