Knights edge MCC men in overtime

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The North Platte Knights nipped the McCook Community College men, 81-80, Tuesday in overtime.

North Platte Sophomore Luke Christian (Anselmo) snagged an offensive rebound and scored the game-winner on a putback with 6.2 seconds left in overtime put the Knights in the lead for good.

MCC had a chance with a shot by sophomore transfer Raheim Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario/Moberly Area College) under the basket with 0.7 seconds left, but the reverse layup didn’t fall.

“We missed layups at the end of regulation and at the end of overtime that would have won it and then we give up an offensive rebound at the end of overtime,” MCC coach Kyle Drennan said.

Freshman LeTre Darthard (Denton, Texas) led MCC with 23 points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds including four offensive.Sophomore Tyrik Singh (San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago/Daytona State) both scored 11 points in the game.

Sullivan and sophomore transfer Bryton Bissanithe (North Miami, Fla.) Casper College, both had nine points. Sullivan had eight rebounds.

Freshman Denzel Cummins (Oshawa, Ontario) and Sophomore transfer Justin Costello (Omaha /Elkhorn South High School/Nebraska) both scored eight points.

MCC shot 42.9 percent for the game, made seven of 25 3-point attempts (28 percent) and hit on 13 of 22 free throws (59.1 percent).

The Indians held the rebound advantage 46-36 and in points off turnovers 23-15.

North Platte improves to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference standings. MCC falls to 8-10 and 2-1 in the NCCAC. The two teams will meet again in McCook Feb. 25.
