OBERLIN, Kan. — The Decatur Community (Kan.) Red Devils led through three quarters only to lose a 41-40 overtime skirmish with Oakley Monday evening.

Senior Anna Carter’s 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots kept the Red Devils (4-4 record) a point or two in front of those 4-4 Plainswomen.

Another eight Red Devils hit shots with senior Alyssa Van Vleet scoring seven while seniors Amy Wentz and Erin May added five points apiece.

Yet Oakley rallied to force a 34-34 tie which ended regulation before escaping with this one-point road win.

May secured seven more rebounds for Decatur during a fourth game decided by two points or less this season.

The Red Devils earlier edged rival Rawlins County, 48-47, and lost a 56-54 Cattle Trail thriller to currently undefeated Dundy County-Stratton (8-0).

They also conquered a 32-30 double-overtime test at Hill City on Dec. 17.

Senior Kennedy Jensen and junior Melody Koerperich contributed three points each Monday night. Van Vleet scored another five rebounds.

Oakley topped the Red Devil boys, 68-38, in Monday’s second varsity game, dropping Decatur’s record to 0-8.
