McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High alum and all-time leading tackler DJ Gross will be joining the University of Nebraska-Kearney football program, dad Jeff Gross confirmed this morning.

Gross has decided to transfer from the University of South Dakota program where he redshirted as a freshman last fall.

He’ll join fellow 2019 McCook High grads/all-state football players Colin Giron and Hunter Hays on the UNK squad.

The NCAA Division II Lopers just finished an 8-4 season where they delivered a 50-33 Mineral Bowl victory over Winona State (Minn.).

The Lopers have made great improvements with new coach Josh Lyn after posting an 0-11 season in 2-15 and 1-10 during 2016.

Giron redshirted on this year’s UNK team while Hays has transferred from Fort Hays State (Kan.) University.

Gross also redshirted in 2019 and hopes to contribute as a linebacker. Giron is a defensive lineman and Hays will aim for O-line time.
