Rose Nelms

McCOOK, Neb. — Rose Nelms, age 70, passed away in McCook on Dec. 24, 2019, with her hus-band, Roger, by her side.

She was born in Greeley, Colo., to Harvey and Rachel (Andrews) Cox on May 15, 1949. Due to a hole in her heart at birth, Rose was the 17th person
in the world to have open heart surgery at the age
of three. She grew up in Eaton, but her family lived
in various places through her early years. She graduated from Estes Park HighSchool.

She graduated with adegree in education from the University of Northern Colorado. Her first job teaching was in Culbertson, Neb. Rose then married Roger in March 15, 1973, and became a farmer’s wife and mother to their two children, Amy and Tim. She taught in several schools and was a frequent substitute teacher as she raised their children.

Rose enjoyed teaching, reading, sewing, swim- ming and visiting with family and friends, as well as spending as much time as she could with her five grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gene Akins and wife, Lois.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roger; sister, Patricia White of Phoenix, Ariz.; her children, Amy and husband, Troy Strauch
of McCook, Tim and wife, Christina of Kearney, Neb.; her grandsons, Trevor and Spencer Strauch and Matthew, Lucas, and Ezekiel Nelms; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m., with family present to greet friends.

Memorial services will be Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, 11 a.m., at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Kelley. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. in the columbarium.

Memorials may be left in Rose’s name at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel.
