McCOOK, Neb. — Glenna Dell Downey, age 74, of McCook, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Hillcrest “A Caring Center” in McCook. 

Glenna was born Sept. 13, 1945, in Hobart, Okla., to parents, Euwell O. and Dorothy G. (Eberhart) Hartwell. She was one of eight siblings born to this union. The family later moved to Cambridge, Neb., where Glenna attended school.  She went on to receive her associate’s degree in accounting from McCook Community College.  

In November 1962, Glenna married Paul Downey in Cambridge.  The couple was blessed with three children: LeRoy, David and Ronda.  Glenna and Paul later divorced.

Glenna was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook.  She enjoyed riding motorcycles, reading and attending her grandchildren’s events.  

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bud Hartwell.

Those left to celebrate her life include her children, LeRoy (Sheryl) Downey of Seward, Neb., David (Tammy) Downey of Indianola, Neb., Larry (Suzie) Doris of McCook and Ronda (Brent) Riley, also of McCook; brothers, Gary (Pam) Hartwell of McCook, Chad (Sheryl) Hartwell of Charleston, S.C., Michael (Kate Heng) Hartwell, McCook and Dell (Janis) Hartwell of Holdrege, Neb.; sisters, Jacquetta Davis of Scotts City, Kan., and Tammy (Bob) Kerr of Firestone, Colo.; grandchildren, Chase, Cody and Cole Downey, Kristin (Dustin) Clapp, Brian and Dustin Riley, David Ryan Downey, Amber and Perris Watson and Levi Doris, Kathleen (Seth) Chancellor and Ian Doris; great-grandchild, Jaxson Clapp; as well as numerous extended family members.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, with Chaplin Dave Davidson officiating.  

Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.
