Roy Vernon Frick

TRENTON, Neb. — Roy Vernon Frick, age 83, passed away at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019.

He was born in Trenton on Sept. 5, 1936, to Roy Charles and Viola Faye (Owens) Frick. He attended and graduated from Trenton High School in 1955.

Roy joined the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 8, 1956, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 7, 1960. Roy was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif., where he met and later married Wilma Sue Powell, who was also stationed at the base. The couple was married June 5, 1959.

Roy and his bride returned to Nebraska where he worked as a butcher for Don Eller and later for Ken Cole’s IGA in Trenton. In 1965, he went to work for USI Axelson as a petroleum pump technician in the states of Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and New Mexico. The couple moved to Farmington, N.M., in 1983, where Roy worked for Axelson until 1986, then MPI warehouse as a parts distributor until he retired in 2005. In 2007, they moved to Herndon, Kan., and lived there until his passing.

Roy enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and four-wheeling in New Mexico. He also enjoyed visiting his brothers and friends. He never passed up a cold beer, gin and tonic or a Martini while telling stories with friends. He was a member of the BPOE (Elks) of Farmington, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, on Feb. 2, 2016; parents, Roy C. and Viola Faye; and siblings, Arvene E. and wife, Jackie Frick and Evelyn F. Lorentz.

Roy is survived by his two daughters, Valerie and husband, Tim Maas of Potter, Neb.; Vikki and husband, Pat Schmalz of Dickinson, N.D.; siblings, La Vern and wife, Sharon Frick of Herndon and Denise and husband, Jerry Holbrook of Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; brother-in-law, Clarence Lorentz, and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Roy’s request of cremation, the family will have services and an inurnment at a future date. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Roy’s name at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
