Picker taking Tigers to win at Tuscaloosa?

Friday, November 8, 2019

Ready for the biggest Saturday of college football so far this season?

Not only has the ultimate Alabama-LSU game finally arrived, there’s some early 11 a.m. flavor when surprising 8-0 Minnesota hosts powerful 8-0 Penn State on ABC.

Never before has one Saturday featured two games matching 8-0 opponents — as crazy as that seems.

So who prevails? After an 8-2 Top 25 record last week, Gazette lazy scribbler R.B. Headley offers his best guesses.

No. 1 OHIO STATE at Maryland. The Buckeyes roll even though star defensive end Chase Young will sit under a cloud of NCAA investigations.

No. 2 LSU wins at No. 3 Alabama! It’s crazy talk to pick against Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa ...until Saturday!

LSU’s high-powered offense finally cracks the Tide ‘D’ while containing gimpy Bama QB Tua Tagalavoa just enough.

No. 4 PENN STATE wins at No. 17 Minnesota

R.B. would love to take the Gophers but believes Penn State has just a little too much on both sides of the line.

What’s a potential upset or two

R.B. likes TCU to shock No. 12 Baylor because the Bears are looking towards Oklahoma next week.

Otherwise:

No. 5 CLEMSON keeps winning at NC State, No. 6 GEORGIA at home over Missouri, No. 9 OKLAHOMA takes down Iowa State though watch out for those Cyclones!

No. 10 FLORIDA finds perfect remedy in Vanderbilt visit, No. 13 WISCONSIN wins grinder over No. 18 Iowa, No. 15 NOTRE DAME at Duke but TEXAS outscores No. 16 Kansas State.

No. 19 WAKE FOREST escapes Virginia Tech, No. 20 CINCINNATI and No. 25 SMU prevail; No. 22 BOISE STATE fights off tough Wyoming team.
