Local physician president of Nebraska Medical Association

LINCOLN, Neb. — Todd Hlavaty, MD, of North Platte was inducted as the 2019 president of the Nebraska Medical Association on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln.

The mission of the NMA is advocating for the health of all Nebraskans.

He is medical director of the Callahan Cancer Center in North Platte and medical director of radiation oncology for the Anderson Cancer Center in McCook.

Born in Lincoln, Hlavaty attended Lincoln East high School, and then attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana for his undergraduate studies majoring in Biology and Physics. He obtained a Masters in Health Science Management from Webster University, and received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. He underwent post graduate training at Iowa Methodist hospital and completed his radiation oncology residency at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Hlavaty served in the United States Army on active duty from 1982 until 1987. He served in the US army national guard from 1987 until 2008 when he retired.

He is the past president of the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation, serves on the Golden Spike Board, the Great Plains Health Foundation Board, and the Nebraskaland Bank Board of Directors in North Platte.

He is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, the American Medical Association, Nebraska Medical Association and former PAC chair.

Britt Thedinger, MD from Omaha, was the past president for the NMA in 2018, Secretary Treasurer is Jason Kruger MD, Lincoln, president elect for 2020 is Michelle Walsh MD, Lincoln.
