McCOOK, Neb. — Connie Kay Padgett of McCook passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 81 years old.

Connie was born May 13, 1938, at Wallace, Neb., to parents, Pascal Carter and Valda Fern (Comstock) Padgett. She was raised in Wallace through eighth grade, at which time the family moved to McCook. She graduated from McCook High School in 1956. After high school, she attended secretarial school in Lincoln, Neb.

While Connie was living in Lincoln, she started her long career with General Motors. She eventually moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and later transferred to Detroit, Mich., where she would devote the next 35 years of service to General Motors until her retirement.

In 2000, Connie returned to McCook. She worked at Willow Ridge Retirement Community and Brooks Law Office before retiring for the last time. She volunteered countless hours at the McCook Pantry and McCook Humane Society where she served on the board. She was a member of PEO FA, serving as president for two years, attended Memorial United Methodist Church, and enjoyed working in her yard. Connie loved animals, especially dogs, rescuing many and taking them home to love.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Pascal and Valda Padgett; three brothers, Lewis, Lloyd, and Forrest Padgett; four sisters, Shirley Padgett, Beverly Radford, Roma Terry, and Mona “Monie” Padgett.

Survivors include her two brothers, Thomas Padgett and wife, Norma of Pacific, Wash., and Darrel Padgett and wife, Diann of Miami, Fla.; dear friend, Ann Trail and husband, Dick of McCook; numerous nieces and nephews; and her rescued fur buddy terrier, Teddy.

Memorials may be given in her name to McCook Humane Society or McCook Pantry.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, 10 a.m., at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Jeremy LaBrie officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later time in the Wallace Cemetery in Wallace.
