Indians sweep Southeast to reach 4-0 in league

BEATRICE, Neb. – The McCook Community College volleyball team took three from Southeast Community College Tuesday night winning 25-19, 25-7, 25-15.

Southeast led 18-14 in the first set before the Lady Indians went on an 11-1 run to start the sweep.

“It took us about 20 points to warm-up, but after that the girls really turned it up,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

Freshman Fernanda Canedo, (Cochabamba, Bolivia) had eight kills, 13 digs and two aces. Sophomore Mallory Brown, (Colorado Springs) had five kills, eight digs and two assist blocks.

Kallie Cathcart, (Holly, Colo.) had five kills and five assist blocks.

“Chandler Nelson started for us this evening setting and played great, especially on defense,” Kobza said.

The freshman from Colorado Springs had 12 digs and 10 assists.

Freshman Heiata Tauota, (Nantes, France) had 12 assists. Kiera Barr, (Granby, Colo.) led MCC with 20 digs and four aces.

Southeast falls to 3-22 on the season and winds up 0-6 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference play.

MCC improves to 17-7 on the year and 4-0 in the NCCAC with two conferences games left to play in the next week.

MCC takes on Central Community College (13-14, 2-2) at 7 p.m. tonightin Columbus. MCC edged the Raiders 3-2 at home on Sept. 18.

“Tomorrow is a new day and a new game plan that the ladies need to execute from the moment the first whistle blows for the serve,” Kobza said.

MCC wraps up the NCCAC schedule Oct. 15 at home against North Platte (11-17, 3-1) in the annual Pink-Out game.
