McCook girls split on Ogallala diamonds

— McCook’s pitchers struck out 18 batters while splitting a pair of games with Chase County and Scottsbluff on Thursday.

Senior Kori Uerling sent 12 Bearcats down on strikes during a terrific battle which Scottsbluff won 8-6.

However, the Bison (7-15 record) did take home an earlier victory by a 12-0 margin over Chase County.

Faith Raburn fanned six Longhorns in a game only needed three innings before mercy rules came into play.

The Bison had time to blast three extra-base hits. Senior Brolin Morgan tripled while junior Savannah Donovan and senior Candace Coleman both doubled.

Uerling drove home a Bison-best three runs. Coleman, Raburn and Donovan delivered two RBIs apiece.

McCook stayed in it until the end, but Scottsbluff pulled away late in an 8-6 victory.

The game was tied 5-5 with Scottsbluff batting in the top of the eighth when Kymber Shallenberger tripled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

McCook totaled eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Scottsbluff had 11 hits on the way to victory.

McCooky fired up the offense in the first inning. Candace Coleman drove in two when she doubled.

In the top of the seventh inning, Scottsbluff tied things up at five when Mariayh Avila tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Keela Peters was the winning pitcher for Scottsbluff. She went eight innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out two.

Kori Uerling took the loss despite striking out 12 Bearcats.

She allowed 11 hits and seven runs over eight innings, walking zero.

Coleman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bison in hits.
