STAMFORD, Neb. — The Southern Valley Eagles are 11-3 following a thrilling 25-23, 25-23 win over defending RPAC champ Bertrand and sweep of Arapahoe Thursday evening.

Coach Jesse Thalheim offered these comments:

“ The Lady Eagles played very controlled volleyball last night agains both Bertrand and Arapahoe.

We had a main goal for the Eagles last night and it was to make sure we weren’t giving away more than 2 points in a row. This helps us maintain our confidence and stay our of our own heads

. The girls were able to accomplish this all but 3 times for both matches and it helped us gain a lead, create a gap, and have a little cushion for unforced errors.

I felt the girls also played with a high level of energy in both games and even though we had more service errors than desired .

SV did a great job bouncing back and not letting one error turn into 3 or 4. We hope to put this strategy to use in the tournament tomorrow at Gibbon. We will see Centura, Gibbon and Burwell.

Both the Vikings and the Warriors have several young players who will develop over time and they will have a formidable team possibly even next year. The Vikings always present a challenge with their shorter passes and faster offense.

We adjusted well and we were able to make sure every ball we tried to send them when we were out of system would force them to be in an out of system situation.

The Warriors did a great job trying to adjust to the pace of our offense and did a pretty good job working together as a team. They had a few amazing saves that we were not expecting to come back and they earned that through straight HUSTLE!!! We wish the Vikings and Warriors luck with the rest of their season.”

The Eagles are set to host a freshman volleybll match against McCook Thursday night.
