McCOOK, Neb. — From replacing decades-old bleachers at the YMCA to helping fill the Fox Theater with live instrumental music, the McCook Community Foundation Fund continues to grant to a wide variety of projects in the community.

And with the Fall 2019 grant deadline just one week away, MCFF is looking for new innovative and progressive grant projects. Grant applications are due by Tuesday, Oct. 1 with funds distributed in November.

The spring 2019 MCFF grants included something for the young and young-at-heart, as well as the musically inclined to the sports-minded. More than $47,000 was distributed this spring with a similar amount planned for this fall.

Several grants were given to recognize several significant donations to MCFF.

Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation received a $9,000 grant in honor of the Andy Anderson family. The funds were used for updates to Hillcrest’s upstairs living room, including new furniture, new paint and wallpaper and tuning the baby grand piano.

In honor of the Myers family, the High Plains Historical Society received a $5,000 grant for updates to several of the High Plains Museum’s displays.

In recognition of the Jewell family, a $2,000 grant was used to fund a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Robotics Class through McCook Community College.

And to celebrate the recently completed Sehnert’s Challenge, several arts and culture events received funding including the fourth annual Prairie Roots Music Festival, the Simply Strings fall concert and the McCook Chamber’s Third Thursday downtown evening event.

Other spring 2019 grants included:

Cultivate Rural Leaders, McCook Leadership 2.0, $5,000

McCook Midget Baseball Association, Felling Field Improvements, $5,000

St. Patrick Elementary School, East Playground Equipment, $3,000

McCook YMCA, New Bleachers and Scoreboard, $3,800

McCook K9 Korner, Dog Park, $5,000 when $5,000 in matching funds is raised

Twice a year, the McCook Community Foundation Fund distributes grants to local non-profit organizations and other charitable programs, which meet MCFF’s mission: Inspire investment in the quality of life for the people of Southwest Nebraska. MCFF continually focus on the people of McCook and Southwest Nebraska to ensure a vibrant, inclusive community.

Grant applications are available online throughout the year at www.mccookfoundation.org. Applications may be submitted online or through the mail, but must be postmarked October 1. An entire list of grants given by MCFF since the first grant in 2003 is also available on the MCFF website.

McCook Community Foundation Fund is an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation.
