CURTIS, Neb. – The Aggie Rodeo Team of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture started classes on August 26th and in less than two weeks opens its season at the University of Wisconsin River Falls.

A pair of team ropers will compete Friday and Saturday in the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, along with other Nebraska colleges including Mid-Plains Community College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Returning to the NCTA team is Quentin Anderson of Pierce, who is a calf roper and team roper.

Joining the team is freshman Wyat Colman of O’Neill. He is a heeler in team roping.

They will travel from Curtis to River Falls, a one-way trip of 675 miles. The next contest, on Sept. 12-14, is much closer to campus at the Buffalo Bill Arena in North Plate.

NCTA Aggie rodeo has a new coach his fall. J.R. Dack of Curtis, who competes in team roping when not busy with his business as a professional farrier, will lead practices and travel with the team to several contests,

“We are excited for the new season and our returning and incoming freshmen athletes,” said Joanna Hergenreder, interim chair of the animal science and agricultural education division which includes several academic teams.

Any NCTA student is welcome to join the Aggie Rodeo Club, Hergenreder said.

Students who wish to compete on the traveling team must meet academic standards and NIRA standing.

Aggie Rodeo competes in back-to-back rodeos on Sept. 12-14 in North Plate when Mid-Plains Community College Teams 1 and 2 host the NIRA contests at the Buffalo Bill Arena.
