COLBY, Kan. — Gerald Green, 88, died Monday (Aug. 12, 2019).
He was born Dec. 28, 1930, to Joe and Josephine (Diederich) Green. He graduated high school from Herndon Public School in 1949. He served in the United States Army, during the Korean War, from 1952-1954, stationed in Japan.
On Jan. 17, 1959, he married Dorothy Baron. He drove a school bus and later drove the bulk mail truck from McCook, Neb., to Sterling, Colo., besides farming and raising livestock. In 2002, he married Mildred Barnett.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dorothy and two brothers, infant Giles and Joseph Green.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; children, Catherine (Dan) Horinek of Sisters, Ore., Maj. Anne Green of Augusta, Ga., Angela (Gary) Shields of Topeka, Kan., Christina (Greg) Flaming of Berryton, Kan., Stephanie (Igor) Nikishin of Canton, Ohio, Victoria (Rod) Holdsworth of Paola, Kan., and Gerard (Cheryl) Green of Rosalia, Kan.; three step-children, 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, 5-7 p.m., at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Services are Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Herndon.
