MCC men moving on to NCAA programs

McCOOK, Neb. — Two McCook Community College men’s basketball players are moving on to continue their careers at four-year schools.

Ron Rice and Peanut Cunningham recently signed their letters of intent to play at NCAA Division II schools.

Ron Rice, a 6-3 guard from Hudson High School in New York, N.Y. will play at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. Rice spent parts of his first two seasons injured and gained a medical redshirt for a third year in 2018-2019.

This past season, he played in 28 games and started 18, averaging 18.3 minutes per game where he averaged 6.7 points per game and 4.9 rebounds.

He shot 44.3 percent from the field.

His 49 offensive rebounds ranked 13th in Region IX and seventh overall in games against Region IX opponents.

Peanut Cunningham, a 6-3 guard from SC Whitmore High School in Louisville, Ken., will continue his basketball career at Division II Queens University of Charlotte, N.C.

He received honorable mention on the all-Region IX south team and also named first-team All-NCCAC.

He was seventh in the south sub-region in scoring with 15.1 points, per game, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, shot 51.3 percent from the field and 33 percent from the 3-point line, and 66.4 percent from the free-throw line last season.
